Ending Gas Flaring: Nigerian Government Identifies 126 Flaring Points

The Nigerian Government has identified 126 flaring points in the Niger Delta states in the first step towards ending gas flaring by 2020.
Minister of State for Petroleum, Ibe Kachukwu, said that over 800
companies have already bided for licenses to capture and convert the
gas for Nigeria’s economic benefit.
The Federal Government said it has laid out plans to achieve this in
the area of gas conversion to end flaring in the Niger Delta region.
The enactment and approval of gas flare law in 2018 paved the way for
key players to set in motion modalities to turn Nigeria’s flare from waste and harmful to productive economic gain.
The 2020 deadline set for ending gas flaring is about eight months
away and this is the most visible effort to end the practice since the
exploration of oil began in Nigeria.
