Developing Capacity Building of Gombe Economy

Governor of Gombe State, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has come up with a template of developing the capacity building of the state economy towards enhancing the welfare of citizens in the state.

The governor on his inauguration on May 29 initiated policy thrust on enhancing the mental and physical health of youths and the crisis of unemployment in Gombe State. These are complementary to the governor’s policy thrust on education and skill acquisition in the enhancing human capital development for the socio-economic development of Gombe State in the new dispensation.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya noted that women constitute majority of the population as well as forming a major source of bloc votes during elections. He, therefore, promised to initiate policies and programmes that would improve their skills and enhance their economic capacity.

The governor also disclosed his plan to review the security architecture of the state and support the security agencies to respond effectively to security threats, restore law and order, and guarantee security of life and property of the citizens.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya subsequently appealed to the people of Gombe State to support the security agencies in carrying out their statutory responsibilities.

The governor also acknowledged: “Our traditional institutions and leaders are highly revered;” adding: “besides being custodians of their rich cultural heritage, the traditional rulers play vital role in the socio-economic development of the state.” He emphasized the need to work closely with the traditional leaders to promote peace and development in the state.

”Government would improve their welfare and statuses to enable them continue meaningfully to the overall development of their domains,” Governor Inuwa Yahaya said.

“We are all aware of the dwindling revenue accrual to the state; I am sure you are also aware of the poor internal revenue generation coupled with bad financial management by the previous administration which led to huge debt profile. As a responsible government, we are committed to settling all legally veritable commitments. We must, however, enjoin ourselves to employ all costs saving measures in addition to improving the level of internal revenue generation,” the governor declared in part.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya promised to operate an open-door policy, including running an all-inclusive government that would engage all parties with genuine intention to contribute to the development of the state. He also promised to compensate for the geographical spread of the support and votes that brought him to office.

The governor graciously extended hands of friendship to all stakeholders in Gombe State irrespective of political party affiliations, join the state government in fast tracking the development of the state in the interest of all.
